WHAT IS A RUSSIAN CLINICAL MASSAGE (INCORPORATING HONEY AND CUPPING THERAPY) TREATMENT?

Since ancient times massage has been a part of the medicinal system in Russia.  the art has been practiced by monks and folk medicine healers.  It became such an integral part of the culture that many families would carry "special" massage techniques for everyday use.  In ancient Russia it was very common to treat rheumatic pains and traumas with friction for the joints and muscle kneading.

Russian clinical massage treatment consist of five phases.  The beginning is slow for relaxation. The second phase  is fast, vigorous, and deep for therapeutic effect.  The third phase is soothing again for relaxation and completion.  The therapist uses knuckles, dorsal/plantar palms, forearms, and the fingers in very different ways than traditional European and Asian methods.  The fourth phase is the application of vacuum cups to the back and the last phase is the application of honey and massage to the back and neck to complete the treatment.

Cupping has a deep tissue massage effect and is used prior to performing honey massage to help increase circulation to the skin in order that toxins are more easily absorbed by the honey.

The general purpose of honey massage are purification and healing of spinal column diseases and illnesses, healing of dysfunction in the joints, while creating an energy boost for all inner organs, skin and even the aura.  Honey is applied and massaged until sticky, it is worked using special techniques until the consistency changes.
